Overview
The 'Process Priority' of a given process can have an impact on the application, and the performance of other processes/applications running on the local system.
Occasionally the 'Process Priority' of other applications can impact the performance of an application running on OpenFin. This article explains how to review the Priority assigned to all running processes.
Windows
Task Manager
Task Manager can be used to view and set the priority for each running process:
Viewing the Process Priority
- Open the Window task manager by searching from the Windows search bar or the 'Ctrl+Shift+Esc' shortcut
- (Win 10) Select the 'Details' tab
- Right-click on one of the table headings ('Name', 'PID' etc) -> Select Columns
- Ensure 'Base Priority' is selected
- Sort by 'Base Priority'
Changing the Priority Level
Important Note: that changing the priority level of a process could cause unexpected application behaviour and the local system.
- Open the Window task manager by searching from the Windows search bar or the 'Ctrl+Shift+Esc' shortcut
- Right-click on the target process -> 'Set Priority'
MsInfo
The MsInfo tool can be used to view and set the priority for each running process:
Viewing the Process Priority
- In the Windows Search box, run MsInfo
- From the left-hand panel, select: 'Software Environment' -> 'Running Tasks'
- In the right-hand panel, Sort the Priority to be 'High to Low'
